This work for music and dance is a captivating journey into the world of alienation. It features fascinating sonic and choreographic gestures of great expressiveness despite their starkness. Montreal-based composer/instrument-builder Jean-François Laporte and French choreographer/dancer Barbara Sarreau are creating musical dance…and choreographed music — quite a challenge. Here, the sounds the dancer makes are amplified and integrated to the soundtrack; there, the musician’s gestures interact with the dancer’s: the great solitude the theme expresses is softened by the artists’ close interaction.

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
