Homage Series, March attack!

The Gougeon celebration takes over this month: D’un titan à l’autre presented by the Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de Montréal precedes a 100% Gougeon concert and conference from UdeM, while the new concert organization Pronto Musica will make the composer’s voice heard at McGill University. Not to forget the Ensemble Paramirabo which will create a dialogue between Montreal and Quebec City musicians, while the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay—Lac-Saint-Jean also joins in the party.

The Homage Series invites itself into the symphony hall

One of the Homage Series highlights will take place on February 26th and 27th: conductor Long Yu, will direct the OSM in a performance of Denis Gougeon’s Toy, during a concert in association with the SMCQ. Let us recall that thanks to the SMCQ and their exceptional role as a forum for our composers, Denis Gougeon was able to create this work specifically for the Shanghai Spring International Festival. A work that won first prize!

Concerto au sol at Quebec City

This month the festival du Mois Multi (Quebec City) welcomes Concerto au sol. The multidisciplinary show, produced by the SMCQ and conceived by Félix Boisvert is an obvious pairing with the theme of this multi-art festival. A beautiful opportunity to discover this new SMCQ Youth production.

The Homage Series does not slow down…

… even as a fresh wind blows our way with the arrival of the new concert organization Pronto Musica, and before we follow Pentaèdre on a musical journey through the centuries. Then, the preludes and the re-orchestrations of two young composers and musicians will place you alongside Mozart and Gougeon, plus a major concert will enhance the celebration with Gougeon’s Fête sacrée, presented by the Ensemble Appassionata.

Listen to the interviews with Vincent Ranallo on Présence Classique and on our blog and take a look at a video of the composer before the premiere. Moreover, Maxime McKinley, composer-in-residence at the chapel and composer of the year Opus prize-winner, invites you to a discussion on the work at a pre-concert talk (7:15 pm).

Composing in the Present!

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for almost fifty years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
