Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, 1977
Nicolas Bernier was initiated to musical creation through popular music. He studied electroa-coustic composition at the Université de Montréal under the direction of Robert Normandeau and Jean Piché. His eagerness for breaking new grounds pushed him to acousmatic composition, live electroacoustic, installations, dance and video-music. At the heart of his eclecticism a balance between intellect and sensuality, as well as between organic material and digital treatment, remain constant.
An active creator, in 2004 he founded Milliseconde Topographie, a video-music duo with the composer Delphine Measroch. He also created the duo 1 her(t)z with Jacques Poulin-Denis and the group Ekumen in 2006.
He has won many awards for his works, which have been broadcast in many festivals, inclu-ding L’espace du son (Belgium), Rien à voir (Canada), the Chicago Motion Graphic Festival (USA), the DotMov Festival (Japan) and Transmediale (Germany).
