A native of Vienna, Alexis Hauser made his professional debut at the city’s Großer Musikvereinssaal, in a performance with the Austrian Tonkünstler orchestra. His first professional engagement in Canada dates back to 1976 in a performance with the Montréal Symphony Orchestra. From 1981 to 1988 he served as artistic director for Orchestra London Canada with which group he received two awards of merit from the Canadian Performing Arts Organization for his innovative contemporary music programming. Hauser has toured Germany, Scandinavia and Iceland, and conducted a number of symphonic orchestras in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Peru. From 1995 to 2000, he spent three months of each year with the most important student orchestra in Japan, attached to the Kunitachi College in Tokyo. Alexis Hauser took up the direction of the McGill Symphony Orchestra in September of 2001.
