In his various musical activities, Rachid Safir has sought to interpret solo vocal music from all periods, ranging from Pérotin to Ferneyhough, from Dufay to Schubert. As a singer himself, Rachid Safir was a member of the groupe vocal de France, the studio Der Frühen Musik and the Clemencic Consort. In 1978, he founded A Sei Voci, ensemble with which he sang for more than 10 years. Several of the recordings he participated in were honoured by the highest awards. He was artistic director of the polyphonic art center of Paris Île-de-France from 1989 to 1997, and he taught at the National Conservatories of music in Lyon and Paris. As a chorus master since 1970, he created Les jeunes solistes in 1988 in order to combine both polyphonic and solo work with young professional singers. Rachid Safir is also artistic advisor for the florilège vocal de tours.
