Future expectations as opposed to nostalgia: on the exact date of the 25th anniversary of Claude Vivier’s death, the SMCQ will celebrate the immortality of his music. For the occasion, Walter Boudreau will set listeners in tune with no less than three works by the Québécois legend and a premiere of a work by Alain Lalonde, a close friend of Vivier’s. With Zipangu for thirteen strings, Learning for four violins and percussion, and Shiraz for solo piano, this celebration will be driven by a powerful concert adventure! Join us in our salute to Vivier, whose music makes him alive and well for us today.
Presented as part of Montréal/New Music’s “Série Hommage” and MusiMarch 2008.

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
