Birth and… Re-naissance! “Crois-tu en l’immortalité de l’âme?” or “Do you believe in the immortality of the soul” was Claude Vivier’s last work, left incomplete on his death. But for this event it will be revived and incorporated within some of the greatest works from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. A truly unique way of celebrating the 60th anniversary of Vivier’s birth, and marking the durability of his work! The Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal (SMAM) offers listeners a one of a kind evening, bringing its choir together with celebrated jazz singer Karen Young, accompanied by her musicians.
Presented as part of Montréal/New Music’s “Série Hommage.”

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
