Susan Narucki sings Claude Vivier — a must hear! This striking American soprano comes to share her love of a Québécois composer’s music, which she has recorded on several occasions. As Walter Boudreau and the SMCQ’s guest, Narucki will perform music by Pierre Michaud, and share her interpretation of Bouchara. Hers will be a true “(re)creation” of Vivier’s mysterious and fascinating work — one of three “premieres” (créations) of works by Québécois composers!
Claude Vivier, Bouchara (1981)
soprano, wind quintet, string quintet and percussion
Estelle Lemire, Mémoire / Éclaircie (premiere)
Commission: SMCQ
Nicolas Gilbert, Circuits parallèles (premiere)
Commission: SMCQ
Claude Vivier, Pulau Dewata (1977; arr. 2008) (Walter Boudreau, arrangement)
percussion, and brass
The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
