We’re heading to Italy! Drawing on repertoire that resonates with their backgrounds — Mandolini lives in Boulogne and Poulin in Montreal — this concert brings together Italians (Berio, Teatini) and Montreal-Italian (Arcuri) to highlight the various connections that exist between these two musically fertile and abundant lands. These works will be framed by pieces by Sokolović and a premiere by McKinley (composer-inresidence for the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur).
Serena Teatini, Il tempo di una canzone (2012) (premiere)
violin, and piano
Luciano Berio, Sequenza VIII (1976)
violin
Luciano Berio, Sequenza IV (1966)
piano
Maxime McKinley, Les pavements de San Marco (2012) (premiere)
violin, and piano
Massimo Mariani, Rumor Surrexit (1976) (North American premiere)

Ana Sokolović, Trois études (1997) (extract)

Born in Quebec, Silvia Mandolini joined the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2008. She will be joined by her long-standing collaborator Brigitte Poulin, a refined and poetic pianist whose repertoire centers on works of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
