Production Esprit Orchestra

Journey from Slavic Europe to the Asian continent! In Toronto the Esprit Orchestra presents a concert tinged with a variety of influences, where Ana Sokolović mingles with Valentin Sylvestrov (Ukraine), Maki Ishii ( Japan), and Unsuk Chin (Korea). The first occasion of the season to hear her Nine Proverbs, which will be reprised in Montreal and Quebec City.

Directed by Alex Pauk since its founding in 1983, the Esprit Orchestra is the only Canadian full orchestra entirely dedicated to new music.

Composing in the Present!

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for almost fifty years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
