On October 29th, Walter Boudreau will take to the podium of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Artistic director of the SMCQ, Boudreau will direct this prestigious orchestra in a concert entirely devoted to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, sharing the stage with Susanna Mälkki, musical director of France’s Ensemble intercontemporain. The programme includes works by Claude Vivier, Steve Reich, György Ligeti, André Prévost, and Paul Frehner. This event is part of the ongoing series Tribute to Claude Vivier, launched by the SMCQ in 2007-08.

Composing in the Present!

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for almost fifty years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
