A week from now eight composers will take off for their second trip to China! All were chosen by the SMCQ to take part in an international composers competition in Shanghai. There’s a real sense of anticipation as all prepare to hear the premieres of works commissioned from them by the SMCQ*, but performed by the Shanghai Orchestra during the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. Follow their journey and write to them on the SMCQ in Shanghai blog: http://smcqshanghai.wordpress.com/.

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
