It is with great sadness that we have learned the passing of Albert Devito on June 19th, 2011. Mr. Devito had worked at the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec for more than thirty years as solo trombone player and musician contractor while teaching at the Université de Montréal Faculty of Music.

Albert was a great man, a model of integrity, passion and commitment. During all these years of service as contractor, he became a pillar in our institution, assuming his role as a middleman between the SMCQ and the musicians with constant diplomacy and great artistic flair. We are very grieved by the loss of this remarkable person who was appreciated and loved by all.

We wish to express our most sincere condolences to Mr. Devito’s relatives and many friends in the contemporary music community.

Composing in the Present!

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for almost fifty years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
