The SMCQ presents Chutes libres, a concert entirely dedicated to Maryvonne Kendergi, the “grandmother” of Quebec composers, who passed away recently. Ana Sokolović will have a generous space carved out for her, in a concert featuring premieres plus a well-loved favorite. Also: Marc Boivin’s filmed new improvisation of Milhaud’s La création du monde (1923). This concert, in keeping with Le Vivier’s season, will be preceded by a round-table discussion with Françoise Davoine.
In preparation for the Chutes libres concert, a musicologist and two composers discuss their works.

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
