On Tuesday, April 17th Christine St-Pierre, Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women made a statement paying tribute to composer Ana Sokolović. This was followed by a press conference, where speeches, video testimonials plus a performance enhanced an already spectacular day. How very moving it was to see Ana, surrounded by her family, speaking of her gratitude to the Quebec society for its support in the development of her music.

Composing in the Present!

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for almost fifty years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
