In this work, the ondes Martenot is connected to a MIDI concerter, allowing the ondes player to perform on MIDI instruments (synthesizer, sample, and processor), as well as his or her own instrument. This compound instrument provides the player with a tremendous variety of sounds—simple and complex—that envelop and accompany the timbres of the ondes Martenot, that nonetheless remain controlled by the performers keyboard touch.

Là où vont les nuages… was completed at the composer’s studio in 1990, and premiered the following year at Concordia University’s Journées Électroacoustiques CEC Perspectives by ondes Martenot player Suzanne Binet-Audet, to whom the work is dedicated. Subsequent performances of Là où vont les nuages… include an airing at the 1993 International Computer Music Conference in Tokyo.
