Spin (1999-2001)

three-screen videomusic

Commission: Elektra

Spin is a metaphorical representation of time, colour and musical form, in which the synchronization of image and sound is assigned a lesser role. Spin was one of the first works to call for triple-screen projection, which allows for the composition of enveloping panoramic scenes. Images are obtained through spiral filming which destroys the subject’s iconic value and reveals its formal characteristics. Synthetic images have no place in this work. Spin was commissioned by the 1999 Elektra festival and given its Montreal premiere in 2000.
