Dedicated to Valérie Dulac and Christine Paté, to whom thanks are once again due for ferrying my music to the baptismal font.
I rediscovered one of my oldest LPs while transferring music to CD, and the memory of a selection from the Cancionero de Palacio (1490-1530) returned to me. Montserrat Figueras’s magnificent voice delivered “Si d’Amor Pena Sentis” to me in such a moving way that writing a continuation of it seemed completely natural. As an aside, and from a more technical point of view, the project provided me with a new occasion to explore the idea of variations.
