Brice Gatinet is a French composer currently living in Montréal. He obtained his degree on musicology at the University of Grenoble, on Jazz and Contemporary Music at the Conservatory of Chambéry and in his masters on Mixed Composition at the University of Montréal under the direction of Ana Sokolović. He was really lucky to meet during his journey very good musicians with very different backgrounds such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Francesco Filidei, Joelle Léandre, Bojan Zulfikarpacik, Stephano di Battista, Ana Sokolović, Jean Andreo or Michel Portal. He studied music from jazz to improvisation as well as death metal and Chopin. His works exhibit these musical differences and demonstrate a strong interest in the extreme. These elements are at the heart of his writing and musical thought. His work bears the stamp of this approach where technique, poetry and structure are intimately linked to create a personal dynamic close to bursting the foundations of a sound universe free from constraints. He’s currently pursuing a D.Mus at McGill under the direction of Philippe Leroux.
