Fabien Lévy studied composition with Gérard Grisey at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. He also holds a doctorate in music theory from the EHESS. From 1999 to 2001, he worked as an educational consultant at IRCAM and lecturer at Paris-Sorbonne University. From 2004 to 2006, he taught orchestration at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin (Germany). From 2006 to 2013, he taught composition at Columbia University in New York. He currently teaches composition at the Hochschule für Musik de Detmold (Germany).
His works, published by Billaudot and Ricordi Berlin, have been played by, among others, the London Sinfonietta, the Ensemble Recherche, 2e2m, the Neue Vokalsolisten Stuttgart, the Orchestre national de France, the Habanera Quartet and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Fabien Lévy participated in the DAAD Berlin Artists-in-Residence programme (Berliner Künstlerprogramm) in 2001and was a resident at the French Academy at Villa Medici in Rome (2002-2003). In 2004, he received the Fôrderpries (advancement award) from the Ernst von Seimens Music Foundation. He currently lives in Berlin.
