Composer • Performer (soprano)

Soprano Rebecca Woodmass captures the imagination of her audiences with her joy, openness of spirit, and her clear, bell-like voice. Her versatility and fearlessness have led her from the stages of concert halls down to the platform of Montréal metro stations, singing standard and contemporary classical repertoire, celtic and folk tunes.

Since graduating from the Schulich School of Music of McGill University with an Artist Diploma in Vocal performance studying under Aline Kutan and Michael McMahon, Rebecca has kept a full performance schedule of contemporary music, including premieres and re-interpretations. She seeks out projects that challenge the habits of lethargic liberalism, such as the 2014 premiere of Pierre Michaud’s opera "Le rêve de Grégoire" with Chants Libres and the SMCQ. She performed Kota Nakamura’s composition as the final work in the Art Loops project, which transcended physical and cultural distance as an obstacle to creative collaboration. In May of 2015, she will begin her third collaboration with Chants Libres and her first with Norwegian composer and musician Kristin Norderval in the creation of a new opera about the abduction and torture of young Argentinian activist and architect Patricia Isasa, to be premiered in 2016.
