We are very pleased to inform you that the concert La porte du ciel, a tribute to Stockhausen which was presented last season by the SMCQ and the Faculté de musique de l’Université de Montréal, won two Opus prizes last night during the Gala at Salle Claude-Champagne: “Concert of the year / Modern, contemporary music” and “Concert of the year / Montreal” along with a$ 3 000 grant from the Conseil des Arts de Montréal. We were also delighted to see the “Book of the year” prize awarded to Circuit, musiques contemporaines for their issue on Claude Vivier, which was published in keeping with the first edition of our Homage Series.

Especially we would like to congratulate all the prizewinners in the area of new music who are also faithful partners of the SMCQ: Analia Llugdar (composer of the year), member of our artistic committee, Louise Bessette (performer of the year), which will be pianist for our concert Solstices, l’Automne Messiaen (musical event of the year), which included our concert Des canyons aux étoiles, Yves Daoust’s Chorals ornés (creation of the year), which was included in our December concert Vers une étoile…, Jean-Michaël Lavoie (discovery of the year), who directed the SMCQ in Méchants garçons!… Let’s not forget Nicolas Bernier of Réseaux with No Type (CD of the year / “musique actuelle”, electroacoustic) and the Productions Totem Contemporain with Quasar (concert of the year / “musique actuelle”, electroacoustic).

We would like to thank the Conseil québécois de la musique for organizing this event… and congratulations to all finalists!
