Here, to discover every day until May 18th, the 13 poems by Sandeep Bhagwati who inspired his lastest creation Niemandslandhymnen.
III — War
WHIP WAR AND PEACE INTO A VIOLENT DANCE OF GYRES!
EXTOL THE VIRTUES OF A PEOPLE, OF A STRETCH OF LAND!
MESS WITH CAUSE & EFFECT! CONFUSE CONCEPTS! CROSS WIRES!
REFUSE TO COMPROMISE! AIM TO MISUNDERSTAND!
PARADE YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS! SCORN OTHERS! SOW DISDAINS!
ALARM THE ONCE SERENE, SHAKE UP THEIR HAND!
CULTIVATE FEAR BY ACTS OF TERROR! ADDLE BRAINS!
ATTACK THE NORMAL! HACK THE SOCIAL! BACK EXTREMES!
INCITE A PUBLIC FRENZY! LAUNCH GRENADES & PLANES!
AND ONCE THE PLANET’S FACE SEETHES IN A SKEIN OF SCREAMS:
RAPE! POISON! NUKE! RAGE AND DESTROY UNTIL,
DEEP IN EARTH’S CRUST, DESPAIR SEEPS INTO CREAKING SEAMS!
IV — Magma
Deep in earth’s crust, despair seeps into creaking seams
As continents become incontinent
Their vile entrails laid bare as incandescent streams
We sometimes wonder where our wisdom went.
Or our compassion — where is our moral domicile?
Our magnetic north, our humane bent?
As subterranean torrents erode our good will,
Fissures will trigger rifts that sire hate…
We surf these magma surges with surprising skill
As if we had been born to navigate
This intermittent zone twixt sanity and flow
Where ancient energies, unearthed, dissipate.
